I will stop there in fear I may be answering questions/issues you do not actually have. If/when it does not it may just be faster to wipe the disk, format it, load El Capitan, then transfer over your data, but that is a royal pain I know. I downloaded El Capitan but have to installed it yet because I am worried that I need need something lessor like Yosemite or Lion instead. I need to upgrade to some other operating system from Snow Leopard. No criticism, it took me a few tries to create a "bootable" disk for El Capitan.Īnyways, once you have preserved your data, you can try Disk Utility to see if it can fix the problem. I do not have an SSD, but I also have an iMac from 2008 (2.4 GHZ Core 2 Duo processor, and 4 GB RAM). It reads like maybe your Installation on your Flash Drive was not complete? It seems to me if it was, you could boot off of that. So now you can work on fixing your system knowing that you have not lost your data. When you get Your Friend to loan you his Mac for a day or what have you, copy your data on that Ext-HD once it gains access to your HD through Target-Disk-Mode. Pretending that you have NOT done that, get said External HD. If you have done that, then you can trouble-shoot knowing that one you get your operating system fixed you can recover anything lost. So how does this at all help you now? A lot depends on whether or not you have saved your data.

Obviously, I cannot access the drive to remove whatever install media is present on that disk. I tried to start in recovery mode, also in safe mode with the progress bar appearing after each attempt. After walking away for an hour or two, I powered the machine down, restarted it with the option button to get the start up disk manager but only got the apple logo and progress bar, again. I restarted and got a progress bar (Apple logo above) which never fully finished, or it did but nothing happened.
I clicked, installation (from bootable flash drive) it stated to restart, with this done a message came that there was installation media on the destination volume, try again. A screen shows up with the 10.11 logo stating to install click continue, agree to terms and install OS, I got the option to use disk utility, time machine or recovery or click the install button. I have a mid 2011 21.5' iMac with the following specifications: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b) 500 GB. The install of El Capitan, at least what I thought was the installation, took a while. But hey, if you want, go ahead. My machine: mid 2007 24" iMac, 2 GB RAM Intel Duo, 667MHz, 2.8GHz, 500GB HD, superdrive, OS X 10.8 Again, this machine–unless it's a fun project–probably isn't worth your time or money. Some cards will require being "flashed" as though they're Mac GPUs, while others can do most (but not all) things without it (and can be flashed for more compatibility.) Again, follow the guide in the article. This is more complicated then you think however. By using a different bootloader, you can circumvent issues. I would recommend reading this article, but I'll summarize here. Your Mac is incompatible because it has a 32-bit EFI firmware and an outdated GPU.

With that said, you can make your Mac Pro work on El Cap if you really want to.

Instead, I'd recommend that you save up for either a more powerful PC or Mac.
Depending on your use case, it may be fine to upgrade it, but there's not a lot you can do. If you upgrade it, it's possible that you may find a different story, but regardless, that Mac is reaching end-of-life. Here’s what MacPaw is doing to make sure our team members and infrastructure are safe. Your MacBook Air is also (sadly) likely about as powerful as that Mac Pro. Prepare to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - CleanMyMac 3 can easily help you to clean up your Mac in its best shape before updating. This means that it is not compatible with El Cap by default (I'll explain more later.) So yes, there's an error on your part.
IMAC MID 2007 WILL NOT UPGRADE TO EL CAPITAN SERIAL NUMBER
Processor: 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeonįirstly: putting your serial number up for all to see may not be the best idea. Is there some stupid mistake I am missing, is it seemingly unfixable? If you need my computer specifications, here they are:

I was wondering if any of you knew how to get my Macintosh to update. So, I have decided to present your ever so luxurious minds with my preposterous issue. Even a Google search on other locations on the internet did not help me. A quick look at the forms, still all good. I checked the Apple Upgrade page and it is all good. This version of OS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer.
So far it is working, I have gotten a wireless dongle to connect, and I thought all was good until I went to my App Store to upgrade to El Capitan. I recently purchased an old Mac Pro, from eBay to use it as an advanced CPU performance computer as opposed to my 2012 MacBook Air that can't endure much.
